About the role We are seeking a Finance & Strategy partner focused on Public Benefit and Public Policy, working closely with our Global Affairs and Public Benefit teams. You will be the finance lead for how Anthropic plans, funds, and reports its giving and policy work: a category of spend that spans grants, philanthropy, direct programs, and policy engagement around the world. Anthropic is setting the standard for what a public benefit corporation can be at a scale no one has attempted before. This is a build role. The budgets, funding structures, and reporting are still being designed, and you will shape them with the leaders who run this work and with partners in Legal, Tax, Corp Development and Accounting. The strongest candidates pair rigorous corporate FP&A with a real understanding of how money moves in philanthropy and policy: foundations, grantmaking, funding vehicles, and the rules that come with them. You will be expected to bring a point of view, push back with data, and help leaders make tradeoffs across a portfolio where impact is harder to measure than revenue. Key responsibilities Serve as the primary finance partner to Public Benefit and Global Affairs leaders, working with program teams and partner functions on every financial aspect of their work Lead annual planning, in-year forecasting, and multi-year planning across the giving and policy portfolio, translating strategy into clear priorities, tradeoffs, and resource-allocation decisions Design and run stage-gated funding: tranche releases, graduation criteria, and tracking against them Lead the financial planning of large or strategic commitments, such as grants, loans, foundation funding, and in-kind contributions, with Legal, Tax, Corp Development and Accounting, including how each structure is accounted for and put into practice Bring funding recommendations and tradeoffs to executive leadership. Work with program leaders to define how outcomes are measured where revenue is not the yardstick. Set up spend categorization and reporting, including project codes, workflows, and external reporting, and build the processes and tools so reporting scales with the program Minimum qualifications Experience in FP&A or strategic finance, ideally at a high-growth company or foundation, with meaningful time supporting philanthropy, social impact, or policy work Experience in grants, philanthropy, or impact-investing finance Advanced financial modeling skills in spreadsheets, with experience building budgets, forecasts, and multi-year plans where few exist yet Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining complex financial concepts to program leaders, policy staff, external partners, and executives Ability to push back constructively with data and clear reasoning Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action, including building processes while the work is still being defined A commitment to Anthropic's mission to build safe, beneficial AI systems Preferred qualifications 10+ years of experience in FP&A or strategic finance, Experience building stage-gated or milestone-based funding frameworks Fluency in ERP, procurement, or finance systems The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
