At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.
Our team is transforming urban transportation through Lyft’s micromobility ecosystem — the shared bikes and scooters riders use every day.
Lyft’s Hardware Manufacturing & Quality team is looking for a Manufacturing Test Engineer to design, build, and manage the test systems that ensure every bike and scooter leaving our production lines is safe, durable, and functional. You’ll own the software, electrical, and hardware test fixtures used on the factory floor, and you’ll be the person production turns to when something breaks — whether that’s a failing assembly or a misbehaving test station.
Responsibilities:
Test System Ownership
Design, build, and own the software, electrical, and hardware test fixtures used during production
Define the vision, strategy, and architecture for current and future manufacturing test systems, and author the test specifications and fixture acceptance plans that govern quality
Write scripts and programs to run automated tests and capture factory data for traceability and yield analysis
Implement features and tooling to support hardware testing across the product line
Own our in-house test platform: an OpenHTF-based Python execution runtime with YAML-driven config, product variants, and feature flags
Maintain the TypeScript/Electron/React operator application that communicates with the Python test agent over gRPC/protobuf
Manage CI, signed installers, semver releases, and an S3-based auto-update pipeline with rollback
Hardware Bring-Up & Validation
Own firmware bring-up, validation, and testing of electronic PCBAs and multi-component electrical systems, including motor controllers, battery management systems, and vehicle-controller units
Validate mechanical and electrical assemblies to confirm they meet safety, durability, and functional requirements before they ship
Validate and troubleshoot factory tests, set factory test requirements, assist in software bring-up, and review test fixture software
Production & Factory Floor Support
Be the eyes and ears on the ground in a manufacturing environment, partnering with engineers to triage issues, perform initial failure analysis, and drive corrective actions
Troubleshoot assembly failures on the production line and diagnose/fix bugs in test stations to keep the line running
Travel on-site to contract manufacturers as needed to ensure designs are built and tested successfully
Cross-Functional & Vendor Leadership
Partner cross-functionally with contract manufacturers, supplier quality, and program teams to resolve manufacturing issues quickly
Maintain key relationships with manufacturing partner teams, internal and external test/lab resources, and mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers
Manage external fixture vendors, including design reviews and Factory/Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT)
Prepare concise, detailed design investigation summaries and test reports, and communicate cross-functionally to deliver successful products to market
Translate manufacturing requirements into terms enterprise IT and security teams can evaluate and support
Lead large test-engineering projects from concept through production execution
Experience:
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
Experience with Python, C/C++, OpenHTF,TypeScript, or other scripting languages for test automation
Working knowledge of hardware test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, custom test fixtures) and lab tools such as soldering and data acquisition
Test fixture and station design and build. You have designed a functional test station and physically built it — instrument selection, DUT interfacing and harnessing, PLC control and power
