VP of Engineering, Product Platform
Squarespace is looking for a VP of Software Engineering to lead our Product Platform organization. Product Platform exists to solve the problems that cut across every product team so those teams can ship better products, faster. Your customers are internal: the product teams taking Squarespace to market. What you own is the layer underneath them, spanning identity and access, user accounts, our design system, media, communications, APIs and service frameworks, the external developer environment, and the shared AI capabilities behind our newest products.
This is a platform-as-product leadership role - your mission is to consolidate overlapping capabilities, drive adoption of shared foundations, and turn the platform into a source of velocity and product quality.
We’re looking for someone who is excited to grow a leadership team, and who has demonstrated experience operating as a close partner to infrastructure, product management and commercial teams.
This position reports to Squarespace’s President and is based in NYC (3x/week hybrid).
You’ll Get To…
Own the multi-year product strategy for Squarespace's product platform capabilities, from identity and accounts to design systems, communications, media, and developer-facing APIs
Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineering managers across multiple platform domains
Define what "platform as a product" means in practice: adoption metrics, internal customer feedback loops, intake and prioritization mechanisms, and clear service expectations
Drive consolidation of fragmented and overlapping systems while sustaining delivery for the product teams that depend on them
Shape the external developer experience — public APIs, documentation, and extensibility — as a growth surface, not just an integration layer
Partner with product, design, security, and data leadership on architecture, sequencing, and investment trade-offs
Influence company-level product planning so platform investments are shaped with the business, not downstream of it
Who We’re Looking For
15+ years of engineering management experience, including leading engineering teams and developing technical leaders
Deep experience in platform engineering management: internal platforms, developer platforms, or shared services adopted by multiple product teams — you've owned adoption as a success metric, not just delivery
Fluency in at least some of this role's domains: identity/auth, design systems, APIs and extensibility, notifications/communications, or account experiences
Track record of driving consolidation or modernization across fragmented systems without stalling the teams that depend on them
Strong technical judgment; comfortable in architecture conversations with senior engineers while staying firmly in the product seat
Executive presence: you can make platform investment legible and compelling to a CPO, CFO, and board-level audience
Experience balancing internal customers, external developers, and end-user impact in one portfolio
